On the morning of September 26, 2019, POTS – PetroVietnam Offshore Trading and Services Joint Stock Company organized a comprehensive fire prevention and rescue drill at the PetroVietnam Building, No. 1-5 Le Duan Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
As the management unit of the PetroVietnam Building, POTS coordinated with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Team of District 1 Police to carry out the fire prevention and rescue drill at the building. A POTS representative stated, “Since POTS began operating in the Real Estate Services sector in 2007, we have always ensured the criterion of Safety for all buildings under our management.”
In addition to providing consultancy to investors on initial equipment investments, the management, inspection, and maintenance of fire protection systems are conducted professionally. POTS always maintains an on-site fire prevention and rescue force that is regularly trained to enhance knowledge and skills in safety, fire prevention, and rescue operations to protect people and property within the buildings.
In recent years, the number of fire incidents in high-rise buildings has been on the rise, causing great concern among residents and tenants of office buildings and commercial centers. Therefore, besides investing in and equipping standard fire prevention and protection systems, investors must closely cooperate with building management service providers—specifically, the Building Management Boards—to develop optimal fire prevention solutions to ensure the safety of residents and clients.
Organizing large-scale drills has become an annual activity for management units to enhance the professional skills of on-site fire prevention and rescue teams. Through this drill, the on-site force can better understand the characteristics, nature, and scale of the PetroVietnam Building and practice using existing firefighting and rescue equipment proficiently. It also helps accurately assess available resources, become familiar with all building routes and layouts, and effectively organize firefighting and rescue operations when incidents occur—minimizing human and property damage.
The readiness and smooth execution of these procedures by the on-site management team are crucial, as they provide effective support to professional firefighting and rescue forces before and after their arrival. Additionally, this drill aims to raise awareness and improve fire safety skills among the PetroVietnam Building’s fire prevention force, employees, customers, and residents in surrounding areas. It also contributes to maintaining political security and public order in Ho Chi Minh City in general, and District 1 in particular.
Fire prevention and firefighting are the responsibilities of the entire building community to ensure the safety of all residents and clients living and working in the building. In this process, the investor’s role and the management unit’s responsibility are critical—from the building’s design phase and initial fire protection equipment investment to the establishment of operation procedures and preparation of emergency response teams. Protecting property and human life is a noble responsibility shared by everyone in the community.
This fire prevention and rescue drill was organized at a city-wide scale, with the participation and close cooperation of various units, including: the PetroVietnam Building Management Board (under POTS Real Estate Services) and the on-site fire prevention and rescue force; District 1 Police (Ben Nghe Ward Police, District 1 Police Traffic and Order Unit, and Fire Prevention & Rescue Team); Ho Chi Minh City Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 1, Firefighting and Rescue Operations Team, and the Command Office of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department); Ben Thanh Water Supply Joint Stock Company; Saigon Electricity Company; and the Red Cross of District 1.
