Voluntary Blood Donation – A Noble Act of Petroleum Youth
For a long time, blood donation to save lives has no longer been a strange act to every Vietnamese citizen. Every year, many humanitarian organizations launch voluntary blood donation campaigns, calling on people to participate widely, spreading to all provinces and cities across the country. Voluntary blood donation has become a beautiful gesture, demonstrating a noble humanitarian spirit and the willingness to share difficulties among people in life.
Besides helping save the lives of patients and victims, blood donation also has positive effects on the donor’s health. After donating, the body is stimulated to produce new blood at a rate 8–10 times faster than normal. Regular blood donation also helps reduce the risk of iron overload and cardiovascular diseases, etc.
As a unit that always takes the lead in social activities, the POTS Youth Union once again initiated and encouraged other units to jointly organize the 2017 Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
On the morning of July 25, 2017, from very early, officers and employees of the member units under the Group gathered at the lobby of the PetroVietnam Building, No. 1–5 Lê Duẩn, Bến Nghé Ward, District 1. The atmosphere was much more vibrant than on normal working days. Everyone was eager, waiting for their turn to participate in blood donation – one of the meaningful charitable activities annually organized by the Youth Union of Petroleum Offshore Trading and Services Joint Stock Company (POTS).
According to the summary, the number of officers and employees participating this year remained quite high, coming from many units:
-
Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company (22 people)
-
Phu Quoc Petroleum Operating Company (4 people)
-
PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (16 people)
-
PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (26 people)
-
PetroVietnam Maintenance and Repair Corporation (11 people)
-
Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company (18 people)
This blood donation drive collected 159 blood units, an increase of 60 units compared to 2016.
With these results, the POTS Youth Union hopes that through this year’s Blood Donation Day, the voluntary blood donation movement will continue to grow even stronger. This is not only an internal activity among the corporations under the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, but also a shared humanitarian activity for all customers and partners using services at the PetroVietnam Building.
